Let’s get ready to RAMAAAAA!! Homearama, that is…and no one is as excited as I am. I love this time of year. Homearama in Louisville and Cincinnati and the Grand Tour of Homes in Lexington all in the month of July. This year, Homearama Louisville featured 7 custom built new homes by 7 different builders located in the first conservation subdivision in Jefferson County, Catalpa Farms. The only downside is that these tours are in JULY!! One of the hottest months of the year. If you can’t make it to Homearama Louisville this year, stay cool indoors and follow along as I share with you some of the trends I observed on the tour.
Let’s start with the exterior. There was not any single overarching trend on the exterior, all the homes were different colors and used different types of building materials whether it was brick, stone, board-and-batten, shingle siding or lap siding. I find this so refreshing! This neighborhood will have an eclectic mix of styles giving each home its own unique identity. Here are two of my favorites:
Scale, proportion and balance are so important on an exterior. Do you see how the windows are all the right size? There aren’t any awkward blank spaces. Notice the little details that make the biggest difference. Details like the tiny corbels in the peaks of the roof, the black gutters and the combination of siding types. So beautifully done.
As we move into the interior we’ll notice that shiplap still reigns supreme. The entire main floor of this house was clad in white shiplap. It was also found in tray ceilings, especially in master bedrooms, as well as accent walls throughout the house. It’s not just white either, new colors are giving new life to this trend including emerald green and black.
A few other trends still going strong this year are white kitchen cabinets, white countertops, open shelves and beautifully detailed range hoods.
I anticipated seeing a lot more color on the tour this year, so this next house did not disappoint! It was so much fun to walk through with colorful surprises around every turn. I love the mix of pattern and color and I absolutely adore the pink kitchen island.
The exciting mix of furniture, pattern and color is a feast for the eyes and a definite conversation starter.
Perhaps what I’m most inspired by is that all the homes are fully furnished, from furniture to rugs and window treatments, even the table is set. When a home is shown furnished it provides a sense of how the space can be used.
One question I’m often asked is, “What is the next trend in appliance finishes?” While I still love stainless steel, this new finish was featured on the tour. I believe one manufacturer calls it “slate”, it is a matte, almost-black and you absolutely must see it in person to appreciate how gorgeous it is. Keurig in the refrigerator door anyone?
I had so much fun touring all seven homes this year at Homearama Louisville. If you have not been to Catalpa Farms for the tour yet you can still attend this weekend. And if the tour inspires you to build a new home or renovate an existing space, we would be delighted to be a part of your next project.
