NeoCon 2018 Recap

This year marked NeoCon’s 50th anniversary showcasing new products for commercial interiors and it didn’t disappoint! From showroom to showroom there was a definite underlying theme of promoting wellness and wellbeing in the workplace, breaking away from the constrained, fixed location of working in one specific location and creating more dynamic, free-moving work environments that embrace a more residential feel. At Dovetail, we’re always looking for creative ways to incorporate residential features  into commercial interiors… after all, most of us spend just as much time at work as we do in our own homes, so why shouldn’t our offices be just as inviting and comfortable?  …. So, we were beyond excited about this year’s new introductions!  Here’s a few of our favorites:

CARNEGIE – XOREL VUE

Carnegie’s upcoming collection of Xorel Vue, available this fall, showcases six patterns that offer a softer hand and appearance than some of the other Xorel collections, with a crotchet-like, embroidered appearance. Suitable for various vertical applications, such as partition dividers or window treatments, I can see this being used in many hospitality or corporate environments to provide that residential feel. How great would these be to visually separate open office environments to create a sense of privacy yet keep the space open for natural light to filter through the entire space?! Even better, it’s Cradle-to-Cradle Certified™. We love companies that practice environmental responsibility.

DL COUCH – INKED KINGSTON

This year DL Couch launched a series of new wallcoverings featuring bold patterns in colors of burgundy, black, gold, and green.  The Kingston botanical print is a favorite of ours with it’s large-scale banana leaf pattern that has been quite popular in residential segments.  Available in both a vinyl and a paper, we can see ourselves using it in a variety of settings and it would make a perfect feature wall. We’ve been holding on to this one, just waiting to pull it for the perfect client.

DAVIS – TANGO

The Tango guest chair by Davis is a timeless design of classic form with modern influences. This bent-plywood chair is offered with several options, including wood or metal legs and it’s available fully upholstered, non upholstered, or with an upholstered seat pad. We love that this chair has a residential feel yet holds up in commercial environments.

HBF – MOD LOUNGE

The look of commercial grade furniture keeps getting better and better! HBF’s Mod Lounge collection fully embodies that residential feel. It’s clean minimal lines and metal post legs give it that mid-century vibe and it’s designed with wide, foam cushioning that lends itself to that residential look, making it the perfect solution for work environments seeking to move ‘beyond the desk’ by offering more collaborative, secondary workspaces. Even better, it’s completely modular with Power/USB modules, offering one-, two-, and three-seat armless options along with several ottoman and bench components.

INSCAPE – ROCKIT BENCH

If I had to pick a favorite product that debuted at this year’s Neocon, this would be it. The detailing is on point. The turned wood legs are restrained and is a fresh take on all the tapered legs we’ve been seeing in benching the last few years, and the wood worksurface edge profile compliments it nicely. The integration of the planter in the worksurface isn’t a new concept, we’ve seen it with other benching systems, but when you take the planter paired with the wood accents, the rounded corners found on the mobile pedestal and screen dividers, the overall benching unit has a very soft, comfortable look and it is so refreshing from all the stark white, rigid, straight-lined benching units we’ve been seeing.  I love how Inscape has integrated the sit-to-stand worksurface; it’s very seamless and when you swap the tackable screen dividers with glass, you can achieve a very refined look.
